Color Inspiration: Super Mario Bros?

Jul 20 2009

It’s funny the odd times when inspiration can strike. For instance, last weekend I was playing a marathon amount of Super Mario Bros on my SNES at home. It was a much needed break from a really busy work week!

All of a sudden, I was struck by the sweet color palette on world six:

It was one of those moments when I was completely not thinking about color palettes, or even creating in general. To tell the truth, I was trying to not think as much as possible! Here’s the palette I created:

I love the late 80’s early 90’s flair that it has. I don’t have a project in mind to use it for, but I’m going to keep it in my back pocket. Little moments like these remind me to keep my eyes open to inspiration all of the time, and keep a notebook handy, too!

Where is the strangest place you’ve gotten inspired?

This reminds me of the Conan O’Brien backdrop debate. NBC had taken down all the video about this but the pictures remain. You know you are a true artist when you get inspired while trying not to!
