Trust Me. Okay, maybe.

I caught a new show that I’m starting to dig… Trust Me.
The setting is an advertising agency and it follows a creative group through it’s daily ups and downs. The dialogue is snappy and I like
seeing Ed (of Ed) and Will (of Will and Grace) team up.
One memorable exchange was about taglines. Are taglines old school? Hmmm…
“Just do it. Think different. Kills bugs dead. When you care enough to send the very best. This Bud’s for you. We try harder. The ultimate driving machine. Uh oh Spaghetti-os.”
The thing that had me thinking though was the working relationship within the agency. Everyone is set up in teams. The creative pair works together on new clients and existing accounts, which led me to wonder ‘what if…’
What if we worked in consistent design & development pairs at eROI?
Who would you pick? Would you share an office? Would you lose the dynamics of fresh perspectives on new projects? Would we miss our ‘variety is the spice of life’ project assignment approach?
Would a partner push you more than yourself and bring out the best? Is there a benefit to knowing someone so well you are inside their head?
There would certainly be a different vibe around here. We juggle multiple requests and work with multiple people & projects. I’ll have to keep watching to see how everything unfolds.
Perhaps this indulges a subconscious wish to have a partner in crime!?!? If that is the case then I’d want a good one like Starsky or Cagney or Hooch.

I think I would miss the variety. It would seem like group projects in high school where you’re assigned groups and then you’re stuck with them forever, hahaha.
That said, I do like when you can get to the point with a designer where you just KNOW how they would probably style something if they’ve forgotten (like form inputs, for instance), so you can take the initiative to just do it, and then YAY they like it! I enjoy getting to the point where they can trust you to take their design and flesh it out if need be. Makes the designer in me happy.

I’m intrigued by the idea of design and development pairs. But, I think I would want a change after a while like Meggan said.
I think this would be really interesting for super in-depth projects, where that specific project is the majority of what you are working on. It would also have to be something where the designer and developer are working in tandem, too. I could see this being really good for working on interactive wireframes, for example.
One thing that is so great with the way we get to work with so many people is that you are exposed to a lot of different working styles and ideas.
