You Better Read Plazm Magazine
Nov 12 2008
Plazm Magazine is a fantastic resource. It’s one of those magazines that you never get rid of. Topics range from music, painting, poetry, politics, social commentary, illustration, to design. It comes out annually. It is so rad that SFMoMA has the entire catalog in their permanent collection.
Plazm was founded by Patrick Bardel, Joshua Berger (Joshua is the creative director of Plazm Design, and was kind enough to contribute to “The Power of the Pens”, a campaign eROI partnered with Wacom on), Karynn Fish, Neva Knott, Andrew McFarlane, and Rueben Niesenfeld. Some notable contributors include: Art Chantry, David Byrne, David Carson, Ed Fellla, The Flaming Lips,Iggy Pop,Milton Glaser,Reverend Horton Heat and Yoko Ono. View the complete list of contibuters (from ‘91 to ‘07) here.
Full disclosure: I did a graphic design internship at Plazm before I worked at eROI. It was a great experience; I was able to work on some fun projects for great clients. They were in a killer space in SE Portland, too.
You can buy back issues, watch a video of an intern turning every page of every issue, or see a lot of articles online in their archive.
I encourage anyone in the creative industries or interested in creative culture to pick up a copy (or 20).

I vote for 20 copies!
Was cool to see this come across my “obsessing about myself Google alert”.
Josh and the rest did build an amazing publication that pushed a lot of buttons (I’m pretty sure I just drank microbrews).
