Harajuku Lovers Fragrance Site

Oct 21 2008

Any site that can get our design team dancing and singing is an automatic win, I’d say.

Our Art Director Garrett found the Harajuku Lovers Fragrance Site via The FWA (an amazing resource, BTW) and brought it up at our last team lunch n’ learn. The Flash site promotes a line of fragrances by Gwen Stefani, and features some pretty engaging web design.

Harajuku refers to an area in Tokyo, famous for its extreme fashion and youth culture. The site plays off the Harajuku aesthetic and some of the themes and art work in Stefani’s latest album.

The most interesting part of the site is the section where you can submit video of yourself doing karaoke. Once a video is accepted, it is displayed in a grid of different sized thumbnails. The size is determined by when the video was added, most popular or randomly. You hover towards the top or bottom of the page to navigate:

We all thought it was a pretty (dare I say it?) fresh way to display a gallery of user generated videos. Our video didn’t make it past moderation (was it the copius amount of beer bottles in the foreground?) but we did have a blast, and got inspired (and I ordered a sample of the fragrance).
