Wordcamp PDX Was Awesome
Sep 29 2008

I spent Saturday at Wordcamp PDX, and it was well worth it. There was a real mix of people there, from bloggers to developers and some designers as well.
We totally blew the wordcamps in other cities out of the water, Twitter-wise.
I attended Aaron Hockley’s session on copyright for bloggers. He lists a bunch of resources on his blog A lot of it was refresher for me (which was good) but I did learn about the DMCA. I also learned that the US Copyright Office doesn’t consider something online as “Published”. What? Overall, I definitely got the sense that copyright for bloggers is somewhat uncharted, grey area.
Josh Bancroft’s “Tying Your Tubes: Integration with WordPress” was awesome. It was my favorite session. He spoke about how to integrate different aspects of your online life e.g. facebook, flickr, twitter etc. He introduced me to the sites Friend Feed and soup. Here is a link to his slides and links.
The third session I attended was about developing custom WordPress plugins, which was totally over my head. :)
For more info you can check the Wordcamp site, which has a list of resources.
Thanks to all of the presenters for a smashing good time!! :)

This sounded like an amazing event. I couldn’t believe how much everyone was tweeting from it. I wish I had gone. Glad to see you gained some insight into Wordpress.
